Matting and Backboard

colour matsIt is a common misconseption that mat boards are only used for decoration purposes when framing, however their aesthetic appeal is their second purpose when framing.  The first and foremost purpose is to provide an air gap between the work and the glass.  If the glass is in direct contact with the work there is a possiblilty that  the work may fuse to the glass and will become unrecoverable.  The second misconception being that all mat boards and backing boards are created equal.  Correct matting and mounting products are used by museums and framers around the world to ensure the future of their priceless treasures. We provide both conservation and non conservation products to suit your needs, although we always recommend the use of conservation products.
